Celebrated annually on January 29 to commemorate the anniversary of the state's 1861 admission to the United States as the 34th state, Kansas Day activities have been observed since 1877.

Kansas is known colloquially as the Sunflower State after its state flower and symbol.

Kansas' state bird is the Western Meadowlark and its state song is Home on the Range.
