Defender of the Fatherland Day

Also known as Men’s Day in Russia, this national holiday officially commemorates the armed forces and marks the founding of the Red Army in 1918.

It is observed annually on February 23 in Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan.

Defender of the Fatherland Day is celebrated with parades and processions in honor of veterans, including a wreath ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier near the Kremlin. Women gift the men in their lives on this holiday and some working women give small gifts to male co-workers.
